Growth in Holiness (This is a website under consrtuction)
As Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan says, “growth in holiness is not our accomplishment, but a pure gift from God”. We have to open the door so the Holy Spirit can come in and do his work on us. We must be open to the Holy Spirits influence in our lives. Within John 16:7-
What we are striving for here as the church militant is that the Church on earth works to
overcome the imperfect and sinful dimensions of human existence. We must live our Catholic faith by being passionate about God and not lukewarm least he “spit us out”.We seek the Spirit of truth to set us free. We seek a personal, loving relationship with Jesus.
We want to know, love and serve him with all our heart, with all our souls and with all our mind and to love our neighbor as ourselves. In order to know God, we must know what he is telling us. We can begin to do this by studying the Holy Bible, by reading the documents of the magisterium of the Catholic Church, listening to the homilies of our priest, reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other good Catholic publications.
In order to receive the Holy Spirit and grow in virtue and holiness we need the beautiful sacraments Christ has given us such as Baptism, Confirmation, Penance, Holy Communion and Anointing of the Sick. These sacraments can make us children of God, give us grace, give us the gift of the Holy Spirit and restore us mentally, physically and spiritually.
In order to love God, we must spend time with him. We can do this through prayer, song, spiritual reading and reflection, and attending Mass and other ways of communicating with him. Developing a good prayer life is essential. This could include a morning offering, the Rosary, daily Mass, spiritual reading, nightly prayers and examination of conscience. How much time? Think of how much time you want to spend with someone you love dearly and do that.
Finally, we must show love to others. We do this through words and actions the Corporal Works of Mercy and the Spiritual works of Mercy. We must forgive those who trespass against us. To see more click here.
